I haven't really drawn since my miserable attempt at drawing my Desert Wolf BattleMech, and decided to not bother inking this (though, I MAY do a digital-ink of it, just to make it look better), and I'd say it came out good.
I lost a lot of sleep because of this. I laid down at about 1 AM thus morning, couldn't sleep, kept reading the "Horrible News" thread on Mektek, tried laying down again... couldn't sleep. Started feeling tired at about 6 A.M. but still couldn't sleep, got the brilliant idea of drawing a more-classic Stinger version, and just ran with this. Got most of the rough lines worked out before going to sleep at 11:00 A.M. And a little while ago, started working on making the lines a darker and more clear.
Unlike the original artwork, this 'Mech DOES NOT have the damned wings on its back, in fact, it doesn't even have an LAM mode
I cam considering altering the design and stripping 2 of the jump jets off and altering the Recon Equipment's weight.
___________
I'll eventually get to the Wasp, definitely going to fix the piece of fucking shit that is the Reseen Crusader.
I'm going to do whatever I can to keep influence of the original artwork while getting them, as much as possible, out of lawsuit territory. (Proven 20%+ difference from base artwork, which this has and much more).
I might do a drawing of the backside to show off how it looks back there. There's no bloody wings or flippin' jet engines off an artcraft back there
Year 3062 Payload: 1 ER Medium Laser 2 ER Small Laser Recon. Equipment
Standard Fusion Engine Endo Steel Internal Structure Standard Armor
97.2 kph top speed 180 meter jump distance
The Recon. Equipment combines the functions of ECM and BAP into a single, 1 ton item. It takes 2 slots. It's BAP function is better than the standard Beagle Active probe, but it's ECM is worse than the standard Guardian ECM. When using the functions, the system is capable of malfunctioning, which ends up lighting up a Beacon that says "Hey! I'm right here, come get me!" It was deemed that getting both functions into a fairly inexpensive unit outweighs that particular drawback.
Recon Equipment can only be mounted on Light 'Mechs, and will not function if either a standard BAP or standard ECM are already onboard, so you can't combine them with each other to boost their jamming performance. ____________ I was going to expand the equipment to 3 slots, as I wanted a required part of the equipment mounted in the 'Mechs head, but in HMP5, I don't have any control on how to make low-crit taking items take more than 1 given location (IE: CT and a part in the head). I might have to go Level 3 to do that, but even then, I'm not sure.
Well, just like the original Stinger BattleMech, I felt it was necessary to keep that aspect, unlike the Reseen version which takes that section to a.... very different direction.
They did the same with the Wasp. If those particular artists were worth their weight in salt, they'd have figured a way to keep at least those particular visuals with the Reseen art. Most of the Reseen are very... uncreative, and it seems the TPTB just settled on most of them rather than wanting something better.
Thanks, it looks like I took my time on it, but that's because I left it in pencil, rather than trying to hand-ink it. It'll definitely look better when I get around to Digitally Ink it in.
Damn, that's impressive. The design looks really good. All the classic "flavor," without the LAM bits.
I hate to knock the Reseen art. The illustrations themselves are nice. But I've never been a fan of the designs... I'm looking forward to your Wasp and Crusader.
I absolutely despise most of the Reseen artwork. There are a few I like, such as the Reseen BattleMaster, the Reseen Valkyrie.
I'm going to start the Crusader within the next day or so, as I'm under the weather at the moment and don't know how long that will last. (My all nighter until late morning didn't help me fend off an oncoming illness). After that, it'll be the Wasp, as of the 3, it's my least favorite.
MW5, if the Warhammer shown in game is any indication, getting the Unseens back that actually look good, are in very good hands.
