Westwood College Acceptance

Fri Jan 30, 2009, 2:45 PM
I was accepted earlier this week for their Game Art nd Design course Online, so I'll be getting a fairly indepth run with Maya Software, among others.

I'll be taking the Math and English placement test later in February, to see where I stand as far as those goes. English I will most likely not even have to take, but Math I'll definitely have to take. It was and has been my strongest area, with Science in second.

3-year Course for a Bachelor's Degree. And from what I read, they don't offer an Associates Degree.

I have done the FAFSA paperwork for a grant and for student loans, however I still need to actually apply for a loan. The Pell Grant will come late, but, depending on how much I'll get from it (The max of $4,731 or the minimum of $400, or somewhere inbetween) will help immensely, especially depending on how much I have to pay per month in the classes.

$4,200 is going to the required software. (Which one that list is Maya, there's probably more. I'll find what is required here in a couple of weeks).
$2,200 is going for books. (Less if I can get used Books)
And if I can get a little more from the loan, I can cover the worse-case cost of $150 per month as my Job hunt is really not going well at the moment. (it'd be great if I didn't have to pay anything per month, which is one of the possible things from the PoweerPoint presentation given to be me by Admissions).

My dad was nice enough to order me some more RAM for my computer, an extra 2-gigs for about $30 (including Tax and S&H) from TigerDirect. That should be here next week.

*appaluse* I hope you enjoy your time in college. I certainly am, for the most part (haven't been able to take an art class yet though)

dont skimp on the work - ever. always try to finish it as soon as you get it, and you will still find time for play. I put stuff off, and now i have no degree.

Good luck in college! As someone who's also currently working up to a similar degree, I suggest checking into getting the student edition of Maya. It's cheap, but you can't use it for commercial stuff once you graduate.

Good luck with your degree! :)

Not so much when it comes to loans. Gotta go for a Stafford loan, since everyone I know has their credit shot thanks to this very screwed up economy (IE: Can't do a Private loan).

Fortunately, classes start Monday and the work doesn't need to be done until the following Sunday, giving me ample time to get the work on and in on time.

I will probably go for the Student Edition, depending on if the course requires the Non-Student Version or not. If they don't (and they most likely won't), I'll get the student version.

I haven't touched Maya in years (5, to be exact), so I'll need to brush up on it.

I'm aware of that. Thanks to being career oriented classes, I don't need to be doing fricken biology, chemistry of physics. It's Psychology (for how characters interact with other characters), English and Math, and then obviously the 3D Game Art and Design class. In total, it isn't over the top, it gets rid of the nonsense that a lot of people who go to college get stuck with.

Oh...

As long as it's still a decent rate and all that and you can afford to pay it back... it's still good news :) Yes?
